Each Spring, BCAC board members, Members at Large, and past honorees nominate a Berryessa resident as “Citizen of the Year” for their dedication and hard work towards our community. This year we recognize Will Ector for his tireless commitment and contribution to our community.

Will Ector
Mr. Ector’s dedication to public education extends far beyond Berryessa. Prior to leading BUSD as superintendent, Mr. Ector served in the roles of Director of Human Resources, principal at the elementary and middle school level and assistant principal all in the Evergreen Elementary School District in San Jose. As a principal his schools have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools and three as National Blue Ribbon Schools. He also opened and helped design two 21st Century technology schools while in the Evergreen School District. He has served as an adjunct professor at San Jose State University, the Advisory Board for the College of Education at Santa Clara University, San Jose State University and the National Hispanic University. He has served as chairman of the Santa Clara County School Human Resource Consortium. He has served on the ACSA State Human Resource Council, the Elementary Council, and most recently on the state Board of Directors. He has always been a vocal advocate for equal access for all students.
This year, the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) recognized Mr. Ector as Superintendent of the Year for Santa Clara County. He was also recognized as Citizen of the Year from both the San Jose City Council District 4 and the Berryessa Citizens Advisory Council and received a U.S. Congressional Community Service Award for California’s 17th District. He has received several awards from the California State Legislature for his successful work in Berryessa Union School District.
Will Ector is the 26th leader recognized as Berryessa’s “Citizen of the Year”.
